In this section you will find some rules on how we publish information. It is important that the Wiki looks similar on every page.

Your wiki-admins

General Rules

  • The Wiki is a source of information on creature, equipment, resources and tutorials etc. Do not use the pages to detail how to "cheat" or gain advantages by the use of "exploits". Such information should be reported to the Support Team via http://www.afterworld.ru/contact any pages added with this kind of information will be deleted.
  • Please do not plagiarize other sources of information, if you add detail to a page which is based on someone else's work please provide due credit to your source and enable the validity of the information to be checked.

Sandbox

If you want to test how to Edit Pages try out the Sandbox or the Test-Page

Naming items or resources

Each item has a unique name inside Afterworld. We show this by an example

Example 1

This is the manufacturing program of a Bullet P ammunition (removed from the game).
The correct name is MFP_Bullet_P

Example 2

And a Bullet P is the result when we use the manufacturing programm.
The correct name is Bullet_P

Naming Rules

  • Use exactly the name as shown inside AfterWorld (some Exceptions below)
  • Use case sensitive names
  • Use singular names
  • Use "." in names
  • Exchange blanks with the underscore sign "_"
  • Ignore the ":" signs
  • Ignore the ASP Version Numbers "v1" through "v10"

Naming of Pictures

When you upload a picture, use the same rules as described above. This is very important and helps us to work with variables. When a picture has the same name as a wiki page, it helps us to organize pages easier. MediaWiki can distinguish between pages and images, so the software won't be confused by using the same name.

Pages and their Sections

In Every Page

  • Use of Table of Contents: By using "==" (double equal signs) before and after ("=="data"==", without quotes).
    • For each level under that, add another "=". So level 2 is "==", level 3 is "===", and so on with each level being smaller text.
  • Bullets: Placing a "*" before a line makes it a bullet ("*"data, without quotes).
    • For each level under that, add another "*". So level 2 is "**", level 3 is "***", and so on with each level being further indented.

Images

  • There are page-named images, where a picture of an item has been uploaded that has the same name as the item's page. In this case using "{{GenStatsDescr|-|jpg}}" where "jpg" is exactly the image extension (correct capitalization is necessary), and "-" is the item's description.
  • Right side images are made by using "[[Image:Trash Can.jpg|thumb|right|Trash Can]]" where "Trash Can.jpg" is the name of the uploaded image, "thumb" indicates that a thumbnail is shown, "right" indicates the right side of the page (which is the recommended side), and "Trash Can" indicates the text that shows under the image (keep it short).
  • Image captions are made by using "[[Image:Update.JPG||200px|Update screen AfterWorld]]", where "Update.JPG" is the image name (correct capitalization is necessary), "200px" is the size of the thumbnail you would like to appear, and "Update screen AfterWorld" is the text you would like to appear under the picture (keep it short).

Categories

Categories are used to help combine items into groups automatically. We use categories to describe how the item is made/looted, from what terminal/mob it's crafted/looted from, and what type of item it is (cyborg, mutant, electronic, medical, etc). A list of different categories can be found here: Special:Categories. Note: if you get confused (and we all do) about these, it is best to find an existing page in the same section, terminal, or mob and use its categories.

Creating a List

When creating a list of items, creatures, zones, etc., the list should be arranged as alphabetically as possible to make reading easier and quicker to reference. If the nature of the list suits an alternative logic to the sequence, this guideline need not apply.

Different Types of Pages

In this section you find some links for further information and you will find a standard layout. Each page should be built the same.

  • Tutorials are free form and built to best fit what is being taught.

Using Templates

The usage of templates helps. Please note the page type (above) that you are working on and use these templates. If you are creating a new page, please consider copying an existing page and making changes to it with the new page data. This will save you lots of time!

  • Reduces typing, which reduces typos
  • Improves the general layout
  • Improves the appearance of AfterWiki
  • Helps maintain consistency and readability

Use templates as often as you can. You can see a list of templates that already exist.

Survival Changes, Saving Alpha History

We are trying to maintain a history of AW Alpha for future players and we ask that you help us on our journey. You can see whatwe have already saved by looking at out AW Alpha History page. Any questions please contact our Historian Dalewj.

Deleting out of use pages

We will not be deleting old, out of use pages. Instead we will be saving them to the the Category Alpha_Pages. To do this please edit the page, remove all current categories and replace with "Category:Alpha_Pages".

Mass changes to current pages

If a page has not been captured yet by our historian and you are about to make a huge change to a page, please help us by making a copy of the current page as a Alpha Page. To do so:

First!!! Check out to see if the page has already been saved by simply Adding Alpha_ before the page name. example:

If you check for an Alpha page and you get "There is currently no text in this page" then please proceed by backing up your page. If the page is already there, then it has already been sucessfully backed-up.
