Taming Overview

The Taming skill is available to every participant, whether Newcomer or Citizen. With no skills in this profession you are only able to tame a Slugroach or a Molesaur, but other creatures will only be available for taming when you raise this skill.

Click on the green "Info" button to read more information on taming. This button appears whenever you click any creature twice or by clicking a creature once, then clicking the middle button next to the creature's name.

If a creature is not tamable, a short message will appear above the chat window:

Clicking on the "more detailed info" link will show the window below:

Image:Taming_Information.jpg

If you are not skilled enough in Taming, Strength, and/or Intellect, you cannot tame certain creatures and you will see one of the messages below:

Image:Low_Taming_Skill_Msg.jpg or Image:Cant_be_Tamed_2.jpg or Image:Cant_be_Tamed_3.jpg or Image:Low_Taming_Skills_Msg.jpg

You can use any form of meat found at the Taming Food page to tame all but one tamable creature. This includes unrefined looted meat, but chopped meat is more effective, while forcemeat is the best. Chopped meat is obtained by refining looted meat and forcemeat is obtained by refining chopped meat. Slugroaches are the single exception and require Slugroach Haemolymph (refined Slugroach corpses) for the taming and training processes.

The following creatures drop meat in loot:

Tamed creatures do not accept unrefined meat, so all training must be performed using only chopped meat or forcemeat.

Only the lowest maturity of any tamable creature type can actually be tamed. Any other maturity cannot be tamed even though the red "Tame" button appears below every creature's name. Clicking the "Info" button for higher-maturity creatures results in the message "This creature cannot be tamed" as shown above.

Looting a creature killed by a pet is only possible if you are in a PvP zone and the killed creature is the same kind of creature as your pet (e.g. Wolf/Wolf, Bear/Bear). This is the reason why people training pets at the farm in Quarantine Zone A1 cannot loot the Slugroaches their pets kill. This means that there is currently no way to collect Slugroach corpses by using a pet, even if you use a Slugroach pet, since QA1 is 100% non-PvP.

Taming Creatures

  • Visit the Stable and rent at least one chamber for the creature - each chamber costs 5 AWD per month
  • Exit the Stable, locate a creature type that you can tame, based on your Taming skill level
  • Only the lowest maturity of each tamable creature can be tamed (e.g. Molesaur Dweeb)
  • Select the creature by clicking on it, then click it again (or click the green middle button) to open the small "creature panel"
  • Shoot the creature until its health is less then 23%, but use only Ammo E - using any other ammo will make the creature non-tamable
  • The "Tame" button in the "creature panel" changes from red to green when the creature's health is low enough for you to tame it
Click it to open the "Taming panel" window, shown above
  • The creature can be fed with any meat, causing Health and Satiety to grow
  • Shoot the creature again with Ammo E to cause its Focus to grow and its Health and Satiety to reduce
  • Hold Health, Focus, and Satiety in the green-highlighted areas, which causes Trust to grow
  • When Trust reaches 100% (the right end of the Trust bar), the creature is tamed and the "Training panel" will open

Hints:

  • Select the creature and click the "Info" button to get information on whether the creature is tamable or not.
  • When the creature's Health reaches 100% (the right end of the Health bar) the creature can't be shot any more or else the taming process will be canceled. You can continue feeding the creature, however, so as long as the three bars remain within the green areas, Trust will still grow.
  • Forcemeat creates the largest green areas while chopped meat and unrefined meat create smaller green areas, making it more difficult to maintain the balance.
  • The more damage to a creature caused by shot during the taming process, the larger the change in the Health, Focus, and Satiety bars.

Stables

If your pet dies, you get too far from it, or you change zones while your pet is out, it will get sent to that zone's stable. In order to train your pet, you will need to "Pick up" your pet from the stable in the zone it was last sent to.

  • Go to the stable building - the Stable page shows the coordinates for each zone's stable building
  • Enter the gate, cross the stable pads, then enter the building through the opening across the pads and to the right from the gate
  • Find the stable terminals at the end of the hallway and activate one
  • Click on your pet, then click the "Pick up" button
  • Exit the building to find your pet standing on one of the four pads that you crossed to enter the building.

Hints:

  • If you allow the rent for any or all of your stable chambers to expire, your pet remains in the stable you left it in and you cannot pick it up for any reason. You will have to renew the chamber rent of the pet you want to pick up in order to use it for any purpose.
  • To change the stable that your pet is housed in (to change your pet's zone), you have to go to the stable in the zone you want to transfer your pet to and click the "Pick up" button for that pet. In order to complete the transfer, you will be required to pay five Promissory Micro-Notes. You do not have to transfer your pet from one zone to the next, just go to the last zone.
  • You cannot control more than one pet at a time, so you cannot remove more than one pet from any stable at one time.

Training

Training panel

To begin training your pet, click the pet twice to open the "creature panel", then click the green Tame button to open the "Training panel" window.

  • Click the "Caress" button to cause your pet's Mood to grow a small amount
  • Feed the creature with chopped meat or, preferably, forcemeat to cause Satiety, Mood, and Health to grow
  • Hold Satiety and Mood in green areas to cause your pet's Trust to grow
  • When Trust reaches 100% (the right end of the Trust bar), the creature will accept commands much more quickly than if Trust is not 100%
  • Click an untamed creature, then click the "Get'em" button to have you pet run to the creature and follow it
  • Click "Get'em" again once your pet gets close to the creature to have it attack the creature
  • Keep clicking "Get'em" until either the creature is dead or your pet dies
  • If your pet wins, your its "Combats" and "C. Wins" will raise by one and "Resurrections" will be reset to 3
  • With enough wins, your pet's Level will rise by 1% at a time (e.g. from 1/0% to 1/1%)
  • If your pet loses, only its "Combats" will raise by one, but its resurrections will be lowered by one and it will return to the stable. If your pet dies four times in a row (uses up all three resurrections, then dies again), it is killed permanently.
  • Click "Come to me" to have your pet return to your location and follow you after any battle
  • Click "Stop" to cancel either the "Get'em" or "Come to me" commands and to stop your pet from following you

Hints:

  • Click "Send to Stable" when you are done training, click "Stop" and run out of radar range of your pet, or change zones to send your pet to the zone's stable for later training.
  • Click "Release" to set your pet free and make it wild again. There is a confirmation message that you must click "Yes" to in order to complete the process and once it's free the pet will immediately attack you.*The "Kick" button is sometimes more effective than the "Caress" button, but it will reduce your pet's health by a small amount
  • If you click the "Close" button, the "Training panel" window will close, but your pet will continue to do whatever you last told it to do (follow you if you clicked "Come to me", nothing if you clicked "Stop", or be attacked by another creature if the last thing you clicked was "Get'em" with a creature selected.
  • A pet retains the same resistances that it had before being tamed
  • Be careful when giving your pet a name because it cannot be changed once it is set
